They hold the frame for developing values, good self-esteem and include embedded presuppositions that signal that there is more to explore: (1) How did you challenge yourself? The embedded presupposition in the question is that one can challenge himself and it is good to do that. (2) How do mistakes help you? The embedded presupposition is that mistakes are helpful. HUGE and powerful message. (3) What stopped you from quitting? Embedded presupposition is that one doesn’t have to quit and that there are strategies so you keep going. (4) How did you overcome distractions? The embedded preposition is that there are going to be distractions and, again, there are strategies to not get distracted. Bravo! I am so happy to be able to refer such a wise and powerful parenting expert to contemporary parents who hold a value for good parenting but have very few real skills.

I just printed these questions and they're going up on our wall. Such thoughtful questions that we can ask the kids while we're eating dinner and discussing our day. This was such a great reminder for me – I tend to push pretty hard and don't always take the time to communicate in a manner that best supports their self-esteem and helps them grow as individuals. I really appreciate all you do to help us grow as a family.

I particularly like :"how do mistakes help you to think deeply?" All of these questions require thought and insight into another person's way of thinking and being. This video may be especially helpful for a child who struggles in school. Fun to learn the brain is a muscle and needs exercise. Asking a child how he solves problems and doesnt quit after mistakes will actually help the child process this information and give you the opportunity to encourage his efforts. This will challenge the child and as a result he will feel pride in hard problem solving. Thanks Jean.
