   I was born with selective mutism as well or as long I can remember, I know how it feels to not being able to talk to anyone. All my childhood not being able to talk and finally when I have turned 18 years old I started to break out of it. (I am now 20) WHAT JOY it was the experience was to talk to people that always begged me to talk to them, that I just wasn't able to. As a child I kinda didn't care if I couldn't talked to certain people, to me it didn't matter as long, I'm with someone that I was able to talk to so that I was comfortable to be around someone I didn't talk to and that the person I did talk to can talk for me. As I turned 13, then I cared I wished I was able to talk to the people that really wanted to hear me talk, I would literally just cry at night when I'm in bed alone just wishing that I could talk to people. It felt like I was trapped inside of a cage and that I have the key to open the cage but I just couldn't open the cage, a better example is as of saying a video game where like each person I couldn't talk to had a chain with a lock on them and I have the key to unlock the chain off of them, so if I was able to unlock the lock next part of the game, I would be able to talk to them, again it's like I had the key but just wasn't able to unlock the lock of the chain.
   There's so much to write but I'm not going to write it all here because it'll take forever.
   But I did found it easier to talk to people when I cared to talk like when I turned 13 and I still couldn't until 18. Anyway I found it earlier to talk to them one by one with a little encouragement by someone that I did talk to. One of the Hard parts was in my mind I was thinking, how is the person that I was trying to talk to going to react to me talking because again it was normal me not talking to them, to all of a sudden say something to them. I didn't want them to say anything it would made me feel awkward or something and when I did first break through selective mutism no one said anything they just answered me just how they would have talked to me as if I never said anything which that's the way it felt good for me. And as for a while talking to them WHAT JOY IT IS I just feel so HAPPY unexplainable. Again so much to say but, yes I was in one by one sessions to talk to one person at a time hundreds of time as a kid but again I didn't really care as much so I didn't put any effort to try as I cared when I was 13 but still couldn't till I was 18. Another thing that has helped me, which is different from Danielle is that if I haven't seen someone at least 1 year like old friends from my school, I was able to talk to them and I was able to do that to my teachers as well when I left that school, I went back 5 years later and I was able to talk to them. Then again that was when I was 14 when I went back to my elementary school and talked to my teachers the ones that were still there. Everyone is different just as everyone is different that has selective mutism.

    When I was young, like red, I was also smiling a lot, because I didn't want to look rude to people who talk to me, also because I got many funny people around me. But, I really get too anxious that no word would come out of my mouth. Some point, I couldn't even breath, my mind just went blank, I couldn't even think what to say. But, after I get into my comfort zone, alone, I'm actually sad and disappointed in myself, and that would be on my mind all the time, I shouldve said this, I shouldve said that, but then again in a certain situation I just couldn't. Red, I got you. May you able to overcome at least to the point not to feel disappointed in yourself or at least not making people around you frustrated much

Everyone always favored my brother more because he says little. So when he does speak people listen and care. There is power in silence.

    I think this is either a Phobia like they said or Low-Functioning Autism. My brother has High-Functioning Autism, so I know a few of the signs. These girls gets anxious around people they don't know besides her close family members, and they also said she never wants to do anything in public. That tells me it could very likely be a very strong form of High-Functioning Autism. But then again, a lot of phobias and Autism have a lot of things in common, so it could be either, or maybe even a mixture of both! What does everyone think?
