Hi Kati i have a quick question about sexual assault. I'm 17 and i work at a restaurant that most of its workers do not speak english. i had a little crush on a 19 yo guy who doesn't speak english and we exchanged facebooks and were able to talk and translate it easily. i told him i liked him and so did he but then he started telling me he loved me and stuff and calling me his love, which i didn't know if was normal in his culture. then the next day at work i talked to a coworker who said him calling me "his love" was a little strong for their culture. so i was a little uncomfortable but i brushed it off. then later the same day he kept bringing me in for hugs and touching my stomach which made me even more uncomfortable so i started trying to avoid him so he wouldn't do it again. well during my break i stepped outside of the building to and he was standing out their too and we were alone. i tried walking past him and back into he restaurant but then he grabbed me and tried pulling me in for a kiss. i didn't want to kiss him so i tried pulling my head away but he still ended up kissing me. i feel really uncomfortable about it and i didn't want to kiss him. so idk if that is considered sexual assault or just a misunderstanding or miscommunication. i think it could be sexual assault but i don't want to overreact and label it what its not. also most sexual assault victims were raped so i feel like what happened to me wasn't REAL sexual assault. the situation has been reported to my management and i kind of feel bad for the guy too, like he didn't know what he was doing was bad and i don't wan t him to get in trouble. idk I'm sorry for writing a book lol i am a mess. if you could help me figure out whats happening id really appreciate it! xo

Hi kati, i have been seeing psychiatrist for months and some days i felt like i am healed and fine, other days i kept looking for something that could trigger me somehow…
My question is how do i know whether i am truly healed or not? Because there is money issues in my case for the psychiatrist appointment, pills and other stuffs?

Being the custodial parent of a teenager who is being investigated for autism is hard. Having a mental illness, plus physical disabilities, makes effective parenting next to impossible. My girl says that I'm an awesome mum, but I know what an awesome mum looks like and that ain't me. I'm told that I'm coping well with it all. Maybe, but only if the definition of coping is watching it all happen as though from the sidelines. It used to be that my reason for living would be my daughter. Even when I had strong suicidal ideations I chose to continue life because of her. Lately I find that the thought of leaving her behind, and the psychological damage I would inflict on her by killing myself, isn't always enough to stop the thoughts.

I have social anxiety and ive had it for as long as i could remember… But now i think its starting to effect my sexuality… I think it is because of the stereotypical image of men being protective of their partners and the stereotypical image of women being extra loving and passionate yet weaker than men,i feel like im so tired of everything that im in no position to be protective of anyone, instead i want to be protected. So now im turning gay, is this actually possible or its just a coincidence?

I am newly pregnant and my biggest concern has been what my capabilities of giving myself to another human while also being mentally ill are. This made me feel much better. I know I can do it but I must put in the effort to get better. Having a child will be my biggest motivation on getting better. Something I usually do not care about. I'm very open and honest with my son about my mental illness. I've been told by friends and family that kids shouldn't learn about those things. Things like going into a store and saying "Mom is having a bad mental health day and how you can help mom is by holding her hand or we can sing silly songs." My son is 7 and shopping with a 7 year old when you are having those bad mental health days is tough. So why not discuss or allow questions. I'm glad you brought it up that we should. I felt so stupid for so long to "burden" my child but yes, you are right, if he doesn't know, he could be blaming himself. I don't want that.

As a survivor of both parents with mental illness, everyday was like a funhouse of horror. I'd come home from school, and never knew what I was coming home to. My only sanctuary was my bedroom. Between the two of them I had to dodge their depression, extreme anxiety, OCD, narcissism, alcoholism, paranoia, and extreme hoarding.
I had in take on the burden and the strain of their illnesses.
Children need a healthy, stable environment to thrive- not just survive.

I have Aspergers syndrome which is a highly functional form of autism! As we get older those who have Aspergers learn much better how to handle it. As you could tell by our videos, I’m a great
father. As my daughter gets older I will explain to her that I have it and how it works. Thankfully she is showing no signs of autism in any way. It doesn’t affect my parenting except that I need a routine (which children need anyway).?

I disagree with your advice that people with mental illnesses should have children . You are talking from a text book perspective, you aren't the child of a parent with mental illness.
All the tips you give are useless if your mental illness affects your ability to actually DO the suggested thing. ie: go to the doctor regularly.
And lets be real, you know as well as all clinicians that people with mental illness are more likely than the average person to have severe money issues BECAUSE of the illness. My best friend is a clinical counsellor who works with many women with children and almost all of her patients are on some kind of social assistance. I really like your videos usually but this one just not realistic.
I speak from the perspective of someone who grew up with a mentally ill parent.

I have 3 under 3 and if you don’t have a good support network, it can be very difficult. People who are saying that people with mental illness “ shouldn’t have children” I see some aspects but not all. I have anxiety and some days are worse than others but honestly, having kids is the only thing I’ve ever wanted for my life, and if I didn’t have my daughter, my mental illness probably would’ve killed me by now because I would have no worth to myself. We arent bad people and you shouldn’t say we don’t deserve the beauty of having children because you aren’t in our heads. I’m sorry that your childhood got messed up but that doesn’t mean my child’s will. And for the record, a child can grow up with mental issues even in a seemingly perfect home.

How do explain to my 2 1/2 yr old son that when mommies sitting on the bed crying my eyes out that it's not his fault and it's just that I am severly depressed. He always says " I'm sorry mommy, it's ok." And I hate that he has to see me like that because I'm afraid it'll effect him negatively. I always have to tell him it's not his fault. I just don't know if he can understand at that age that there's other things either in life or in my head that's making me go into break down mode? I've been severly depressed since I was 13, I think. I've lived with this for so long I can't even remember. But how do I explain it, should I even have to explain it at his age?

What if you are a single parent. With a disability and a mental health issue. With no support network. At all. My son is 17 now… We do talk openly. And my childhood was pretty emotionless so have tried to make those changes to not repeat that cycle… But as other videos have stated the paretified child…(me) probably still is lacking in skills and not even recognising them. Does concern me That the damage might be done inadvertently… Sometimes I wonder however if it's just OK to Fk up every now and then as I'm Human too. Going to go next week to see about a referral for talking to someone.

I have struggled with depression and anxiety since I was 14 Ish. I then had ppd and anxiety that had lingered, grown ect for 3 years. I'm currently getting help. My 3 year old knows sometimes mommy gets scared and we have to go home or mommy gets sad and we have movie days. He also knows my goes to "parapy" to get better. Thank you sup much for this video!

The husband just bought a house, our system has managed to be able to live a relatively healthy and safe life but there are alters that are still very messed up and in NEED of professional help. So even if those are helped, do you think we can ever have children? Some of us are still children themselves and we worry a lot because thats one of the host's biggest hopes in life to have a baby or maybe two one day.

I'm a mum of 2 and I've had depression on and off for as long as I can remember. My eldest is 5 he's coming into the age now where he notices I'm not myself and asks me why, I just have to tell him mummy isn't feeling well and having a bad day. I'm terrified I'm going to pass this onto my children and can't think of anything worse then being responsible for them having to go through this. I understand that you made this video with intent to help and give people useful tools to get better BUT especially with children it is SO much more difficult especially if you don't have the extra help of family or money for childcare.

My life is very hard because I have social anxiety disorder, so day to day life is challenging in general and I try and push myself as much as possible but I find myself overwhelmed and stressed out because I have two kids and they both have severe ADHD. I’m constantly feeling stressed and overwhelmed from the second I wake up until I fall asleep, because my kids are so full on.
