   This works, holy cow it worked. The other day my son didn't want to go to school. I told him "I hear you, I love you, and no, today you will not skip school". SO he complained some more about his teacher and I listened as I made the lunch and he got dressed. We chatted over breakfast and I kept my stance. I put his bag on his back and sent him out the door with a big hug. I closed the door and burst out crying.
   It was the easiest morning ever…so effing easy. It might have been possible that he just wanted to vent, it never occurred to me at that time.

   Good conversation here, and lots to apply to any relationships, since we all tend to apply our childhood filters and programming: I've taken to asking my partner, who's not all that communicative most times, but is, when he gets warmed up', "what was the highlight of the day?". (I notice myself saying "the day" rather than "your day", and thought: aha! that's interesting.This is nicely open-ended, like the "rose"…but even more open, it feels to me, in that it seems to behave like a wide-angle lens… It kind of draws one back to more of a witness position (and reminds me of "visual centering", a great way to come back to centre)
   "The highlight", when one is asked to scan for it might actually take awhile to come up with! So I've learned to not expect an immediate answer: this is good for me; I tend to be very fast-thinking. The highlight looks at whole situations: includes often, a number of others into a constellation of energies. It always leads to a wonderful evening of insight and appreciation; now that I think of it, a kind of turnaround energy. I started to do this because I noticed if we start with this, rather than just letting whatever one of us has reacted to lead the conversation, we both tend to then look for all the other highlights, which is really just a kindergarten level (lol) way of setting up an attractor field! 🙂
