No, no, no! My daughter held her poop in to the point that she became constipated. The doctor suggested we give her prune juice, which she hated and wouldn't drink. She refused to go on the potty. Then one night she woke up screaming. My husband and I held her down on the little potty while she screamed and eventually pooped. Once she saw the poop she was fine after that. She would even go on the toilet and wave good-bye to the poop as it flushed away. That was over 22 years ago.

Hi Jackie, just a suggestion, which you may have already tried. You have such a calming voice, so when you see her getting upset, but before a complete meltdown, stay with her while she sits on the toilet, rub her back, read to her and calmly talk to her. Maybe just little baby steps at a time. She is clearly fearful of it, but if she knows you won’t leave her and if her tummy starts to hurt, you are right there with her to comfort her. Only you know what is right for your child, this too shall pass, relax and if you need to back off for a month do it. It will happen, you are such an awesome mother, don’t let anyone make you feel otherwise. Maybe your mom has some suggestions, I raised boys who are your age now but I felt pressure to potty train my first around 2 and a half because I had another baby coming. I didn’t want two in diapers. Peeing in toilet was easy but the poop took longer, I wish I would have given him more time to adjust. Anyway the moral of the story is that he is 34 now and poops in the toilet all the time, I did not scar him for life! Hang in there sweet girl.

It broke my heart to hear her screaming like that and I know how they felt for you too. Poor Abbey. Is there any reason she thinks it will hurt her? Just wondering if maybe she had a bad experience one time going. I would be afraid of her getting constipated but maybe you can bring her in and sit with her? I am sure you tried that too. She will get it she IS a big girl!!! Love you Abbey

I don't think that way is a good way I wouldn't call it a fail as much of trying something different. I heard real fear in her screaming so maybe try to figure out what part of it makes her afraid, maybe open a diaper and lay it in the bottom of her little potty chair and tell her she can let it out and it will fall onto the diaper. Maybe the diaper is her security blanket type thing. Good Luck

Ugh. Was tough to see her cry. I bet it was so hard for you. Don’t push her. Let her poop in her diaper if that’s what she wants. I listened to my daycare teachers and took my daughter out of diapers too early and she developed a fear of letting it out and I set her up for a chronic holding issue. Now she’s been on PEG for several years and she still holds more than I’d like. The holding is terrible. I’d say let her poop in the diaper as long as she wants. At least she’s not holding!

NO, do not force her to go poop on the potty! She will do it when she’s ready. Right now she has control of her poop, and she’s not ready to let that go. My daughter was fully potty trained just a few weeks shy of her third birthday, except for pooping. She did the same thing Abbey does… she’d ask for a diaper, go under the dining room table to poop, then I’d change her. She was in full control. Finally one day (age 3.5) she told me she wanted to poop on the potty. We made a huge deal of it, kind of like a ceremony when she flushed the toilet, she sang a goodbye song to her poopy. After that she never asked for another diaper. Give Abbey more time. ❤️

I think it is a really hard thing to teach her to go poo poo on the potty when she's so determined. I have a few questions to understand and maybe I can help you.
I think you already did this, but have you asked her why she thinks it's going to hurt when she goes on the potty? If you really explain and promise it is not going to hurt, will she believe you?
Do you put her on a grown up toilet with a smaller toilet seat on it? Is it a toilet where the poop splashes in the water or do you put her on an little children's potty which you have to empty? I can imagine her being afraid of water splashing back up on her butt. If it is a toilet like that, maybe try putting toilet paper down first in the water and make a 'bed' for the poop.
Maybe it will help to let her in the toilet when you or Alex go on the toilet, you have to get rid of your own shame, but if she sees your example, maybe she will follow.
If all this doesn't work I really think you need to continue the strict route. Maybe put her on the potty as long as it will take for her to go. Don't let her off it before she goes. Do it in the weekend, don't plan anything else and commit to this. Eventually she will have to go. I wish you all the luck. Again it is hard and you are a great mom anyway. This is just something you have to go through.
