to the person who says this woman is selfish… your wrong. she married into a family to be a part of that FAMILY, not to be put on the back burner for a week at a time while her husbands daughters are there. kids are able to learn how to include a new step parent as part of the family, they shouldn't be put on a pedestal above their new step parent. they need to see she/he has feelings too and just wants to love and be loved.
we did this for my step dad when he came into the picture and I love him more than I'll ever love my biological father. doing selfless things for others and minding their feelings is what helps you grow to love someone… that's a lesson I can thank my mom and dad for teaching me by showing me how to be respectful and compassionate.
you don't tell your kids to exclude the new kid in school because he or she already has a best friend… we are all people and the best of us are still loving, caring, selfless kids at heart.

Since they're with you half the time, that means you have the other half the time to hold your hubby's hand when out which is pretty good. Just walk beside them and join in conversation. Maybe a simple "wait for me" and a small discussion about how they could include you would be helpful but I don't think breaking their bond is a good thing to do. They are only young for a short while. You'll want to be remembered as the step mom that supported their relationship instead of the one who wouldn't let them hold daddy's hand…when kids go through changes in the family they feel the need for security. Their dad is their security and they need to feel like he's still dad and it's completely normal for them to cling emotionally and sometimes even physically to their bio parent. They need to know he's still on their team and their protector when under his care. God bless and I hope you continue to grow as a family 🙂

You should be happy your step-daughters hold onto their dads hand in public! When the kids are about 14 and older, the public walking hand-in-hand with dad may stop.
It seemed to make you jealous, and you demanded they change their wonderful father-daughter tradition. Very selfish of you.
