I have done all I could to co-parent with my ex. This was an extremely toxic marriage with physical and emotional abuse. My child had to undergo counseling do to his father actions. Some how the judge ordered joint custody which is basically making it worse for my son. Instead of building a relationship with our son he threatens him and put his health in jeopardy when there together. So I have to disagree sometimes its best not to have your child around a toxic parent

You have no idea how much the targeted parent has to deal with in toxic/abusive parenting situations and this video is just like the courts short sited interpretation of reality. The overriding goal of the healthy parent is the wellbeing of the children. It is a big job just to keep them grounded and emotionally healthy when constantly exposed to the pathological parent. It is just a game to the Narc abuser ( who creates the co-parenting chaos at every opportunity) and they don’t feed into the children’s lives unless there’s an audience. I have experienced this and witnessed dozens of tragic outcomes for children who have to endure the chronic emotional abuse…nobody will take a stand to protect them.

I think this is bad advice for those of us from abuse situations. Judges don’t listen nor care. Basically you are told to accept abuse. Which ultimately doesn’t make things better.

I don't agree some times the toxic parent has nothing to offer the child … the child is more of a possession to the toxic parent. Never having much to do with the child before the separation but now wants to act like father of the year just to "win" the war…. It's a game to the toxic parent…

I think when we talk about high conflict, we are often talking about abuse. Abusive fathers are 50% more likely to seek sole custody and in 70% of those cases, even when they are convicted domestic abusers, they get sole or joint. It's abusive of the courts to demand abused parents bend over backwards to make co parenting work with someone who abuses them. My ex raped me and admitted to it in trial testimony. I'm still being asked by mediators to parent with him. My kids are having psychological problems due to his emotional and psychological abuse, but the court is still taking the position you took in the beginning of this video- that it must be both parents causing the problem. Studies show the majority of high conflict cases include abuse allegations. Courts must be careful not to become tools for the abuser to continue abusing the other parent.

Every time my ex gets into a new relationship he forgets about my daughter. He will go weeks without seeing her, when his mommy talks to him he changes his ways but it becomes a huge argument and he always threatens me with something. I'm trying to get his time cut short because he really doesn't see her that much, I live in Indianapolis Indiana and every time I call I just get a voice mail that never calls me back. I'm moving back to Fl. in a few months and he will be taking her in the summer for three months bit I want that changed dramatically.
